The efficiency of the milling department for worm gear casings (machining centres 32-37) has increased by 25%.

SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Dies) activities enabled the specialist team to streamline the set-up process in just two months and achieve these outstanding results.

Areas for improvement were identified and targeted solutions implemented through analysis and brainstorming sessions. In addition, refurbishment work was carried out to provide workers with brand new workstations.

The existing work areas were reorganised by applying the principles of 5S to create a highly functional work environment.

The expertise gleaned from this fully documented project will provide a solid foundation for the future implementation of SMED in other departments and on other machines in an effort to ensure operational excellence throughout the company.
