SG3 Motovario Logic Relay: Features, Functions and Applications

The SG3 Motovario logic relay is the new TECO branded product in the Motovario E electronic series. The SG3 logic relay is a programmable logic controller (PLC) that offers the latest features required by the market, including integrated Ethernet communication, SD card port and web server tool.
The SG3 logic relay is based on TECO's consolidated experience in the design and production of PLCs, and perfectly integrates with the existing range of SG2 logic relays, maintaining the same layout and programming style.
The SG3 logic relay is available in two basic versions:
- 10-12 I/O
- 20 I/O
Features of the SG3 logic relay, Motovario E Series
The SG3 logic relay is a logic module that offers the following features:
- Maximum configuration of 88 inputs and 84 outputs with 9 I/O expansion modules, including digital or analog, temperature, communication and high-speed output.
- All units have an integrated Ethernet port for reading/writing the program and the ModbusTCP master/slave function, which allows communication with other devices and control systems.
- Integrated LCD display and ten Xable languages for easy configuration and monitoring of the logic relay.
- The email messaging function allows sending a simple preset alarm message and I/O status to a predefined email address, for greater security and timeliness.
- SD card slot (max 32 GB) as an external memory card for reading/writing user programs, event logs and configuration files, for greater practicality and versatility.
- Integrated Real Time Clock (DST/DST setting) will work for up to 5 years after power off with the installed battery (CR1220), for greater precision and reliability.
- Expansion communication modules: Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, Modbus, for greater compatibility and integration with other industrial protocols and networks.
- Programming languages: ladder format, max 600 lines, 4 instructions per line, and Function Block Diagram (FBD) format, max 500 blocks, for greater programming simplicity and flexibility.
- 31 integrated multifunction timers, 31 sets of counters, 31 RTC comparators and 126 auxiliaries, 31 analog comparators, for greater functionality and customization of logic control.
- Relay output contact max 8A / Transistor output current max 0.5A, for greater power and robustness of the logic relay.
- The password protection function can be set for two levels, A and B (16-bit password), for greater security and confidentiality of the logic relay.
- The free PC programming software offers functions for reading/writing/monitoring the Ladder and FBD program, setting up the server and network, for greater ease and convenience of programming.
Features of the SG3 Motovario Logic Relay
The SG3 logic relay is an enhanced product compared to its previous version and introduces the following features:
- Integrated Ethernet communication: The SG3 Motovario logic relay has an integrated Ethernet port that allows communication with other devices and control systems via the ModbusTCP protocol. This function allows data, commands and alarms to be transferred between the logic relay and other PLCs, inverters, sensors, actuators, HMIs and PCs. In addition, the Ethernet port allows the reading and writing of the logic relay program via the PC programming software, without the need for a dedicated communication cable. Integrated Ethernet communication increases the connectivity, interoperability and flexibility of the SG3 logic relay.
- SD card port: The SG3 logic relay has a slot for inserting an SD card (max 32 GB) which acts as external memory. The SD card can be used to read and write user programs, event logs, and configuration files, without the need for a PC. This function allows you to easily save and transfer logic relay data, back up and restore data, update firmware and duplicate settings.
- Web server tool: The SG3 Motovario logic relay has an integrated web server tool that allows access to the logic relay through a web browser, without the need for specific software. The web server tool allows you to view and modify the status and parameters of the logic relay, to monitor and control variables and outputs, to download and upload the program, to configure the network and server, to send and receive emails.
Applications of the SG3 logic relay
The SG3 logic relay is a programmable logic controller that can be used in any application where a logic control system is required.
- Automatic doors: The SG3 logic relay controls the opening of the door based on the status of the sensors. When the forklift truck approaches the door, a buried inductive loop sensor detects the forklift truck. This signal is the input for the SG3 logic relay that allows the door to open. Subsequently, another loop sensor confirms that the forklift has left. If the photoelectric sensor does not detect anything under the door, logic relay SG3 will close the door. The SG3 logic relay ensures the safety and efficiency of the door opening and closing operation.
- Ventilation: The ventilation of a building is controlled based on a pre-established schedule. In addition, the speed of the fans is adjusted based on O2 sensors. The SG3 logic relay receives a signal with the O2 concentration and then sends the speed command to the inverters to regulate the fans. The SG3 logic relay controls the entire process, in communication with a supervisory building control system via the Ethernet port. The SG3 logic relay ensures comfort and air quality in the building.
- Lighting control: The SG3 logic relay controls the lighting of a building, based on the presence of people in a room, and at the same time adjusts the intensity level based on natural light. The SG3 logic relay receives signals from motion and light sensors and then sends commands to the dimmers to turn the lights on or off and vary their power. The SG3 Motovario logic relay controls the entire system, in communication with an energy management system via the Ethernet port. The SG3 logic relay ensures energy savings and lighting optimization in the building.
